Why A Screen Extender Might Not Support Apple's M1, M2, M3 Chips?

19 Dec 2023 0 Comments

Architecture Compatibility:

The M1 chip uses an ARM architecture, which is different from the traditional x86 architecture. This means that applications and external devices like Screen Extenders need to be recompiled and adapted to ensure compatibility with the M1 chip. If the drivers or firmware for a Screen Extender have not been adapted, it may not function properly on Mac computers with the M1 chip.

Driver Support:

External devices such as Screen Extenders often rely on specific driver support for proper operation. If proper drivers have not been developed for the M1 chip, the device may not work as intended on Mac computers with the M1 chip.

Operating System Compatibility:

The M1 chip introduces a new Apple Silicon architecture, which requires operating systems and applications to be adapted. While Apple provides the Rosetta 2 tool to assist in running x86 architecture applications, some external devices may require native ARM architecture support to fully utilize their performance capabilities.

Hardware Compatibility:

Some Screen Extenders may rely on specific hardware interfaces or features that could differ between M1 chip Mac computers and traditional x86 architecture computers. These hardware differences may necessitate redesign or adaptation to ensure compatibility with the M1 chip.
